The Role

Support and coordinate all property flows and communication flows. Conduct physical handling of property from time of arrival at Christie's until is sold and released to client/owner or back through the cycle for re-offers.

Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to

  • Receive property
  • Quality check documents against piece counts
  • Unpack all property within 48 hours of arrival
  • Check received items against packing list or property schedules
  • Notify relevant property controllers and departments of any damages, losses or discrepancies (within 24 hours)
  • Support Property Controllers in physical handling and communicating conditions (complete Damage reports)
  • Bar-code & tag all property using handheld scanning device prior to transfer of property throughout Christie's facilities (on-site/off-site)
  • Scan all property in/out of warehouses
  • Unpack/pack, handle, and store property in designated areas
  • Transfer bar-coded and tagged property to departmental warehouse, saleroom, post-sale, packing desk
  • Troubleshoot, track and trace missing property, proactively communicating to relevant department and property controllers
  • Perform physical inventory checks; generate reports listing "dead" property; and re-scan all relevant logistics areas (on-site & off-site warehouses) 3 times per year
  • Maintain general organization of warehouse; keep dock/warehouse clean and organized, discard of packing material, carry out on-going warehouse maintenance such as property organization, inventory physical checks, and racking property based on status (incoming, catalogue, ready for photo, ready for view, BI, or per department preference)
  • Support photography during photo shoots
  • Lot up sales (printing and placing lot stickers as directed by department)
  • Re-order supplies need within warehouse
  • Process pre-sale temp releases by obtaining necessary release paperwork from cashier's release, then tracking, tracing, scanning, and communicating the whereabouts of property to departments
  • Perform saleroom exhibition setups, breakdowns, and transfers to packing desk for customer pickup or transfer. Provide on-site support during exhibitions
  • Communicate responsibility between Specialist department and logistics operations
  • Assist Specialists with preparing property and setting up artwork during photo shoots and anytime department needs to access property in warehouses
  • Support all other logistics functional areas as directed by management. Other duties as assigned by Management/Supervisor
The Candidate
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED). College degree preferred but not required
  • Minimum of one (1) year of Art Handling experience
  • Basic knowledge of E-mail, Spreadsheet, and Word Processing software (Microsoft Office Preferred)
  • Ability to learn Christie's systems including Siebel, Property System, intranet and website
  • Ability to read and interpret documents; write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Strong attention to detail, pro activity, organizational skills and time management ability
  • Clear and effective communication in spoken and written English
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed subject primarily to inside environmental conditions (e.g. warehouse and covered loading dock), and also occasionally to outside environmental conditions
  • Noise level in the work environment is moderate; higher on sale or exhibition days, and in loading dock
Physical Requirements
  • Box, crate, and heavy property lifting (typically up to 35 pounds per piece)
  • Un-crating, unpacking, bending, lifting, carrying
  • Extensive walking throughout Christie's facilities (300,000 + sq. ft. as well as off-site warehouses)
  • Use of dock equipment & tools (listed below)

  • The following items may vary based on assigned area of the business: Desk, chair, telephone, handheld scanning/barcode device, loading dock equipment (pallet jack, forklift, crowbar, material handling equipment, handcart, dolly), box cutter, hand tools, packing tape and materials, personal computer including word processing software, copy machine, fax machine, scanner, office supplies
